    Hella HID DOT compliant

    SO... my local authorities insist that all my lights meet North American compliance. Unfortunately JIS and E-code fail. They must all meet DOT/SAE North American Standard.

    a cardboard template, scrap aluminum sheet, acrylic surplus+yellow vinyl, DOT compliant 90mm 55watt 4300k Hella projector HIDs, LED daytime running lights, etc. =



    ps.I had to add DOT tails/reverse/and plate lights too!

    Rear is not to lovely, but I'm happy with the upgrades to the front.
    Still a forced issue.

    great solution!
    have you not been able to have it on the road before changing the lights? or were you advised about them while it was on the road?

    I've been driving it for 3 years, but lately the authorities here are really cracking down on us (RHD in a LHD country). Luckily no copper has stopped me to check my lights.

    I've also had to change my seat-belts and tires!

    Authorities here hate RHD and are trying to stop the importation because North American auto makers are lobbying the government and saying that they are loosing sales.

    Good work.
    That looks like quite a major undertaking. I thought I was going hard by fitting LED daylight running lights inside my headlamps but you've just taken it to a whole new level!

    Nothing major, just lots of tinkering. I had to switch, so I figured I should upgrade.
    I like your Daytime Running Lamps. They help a lot to be seen for safety and are mandatory here.
    I used those leds to light up under the hood.
    ps... the Hellas are a decent projector. Bright with crisp cut-offs.

    Very cool hood lamp... you're me more silly ideas now

    The Daylight running lights have now been modified to dim by about 50% when the dipped beam is on and to go back to full brightness with the main beam. Just a relay and resistor used.

    I've also put two 10mm white LED's in to light up the glove box, switched with a magnetic reed switch, I'll find the time to take some photos. Works a treat

    LEDs are nice. 6x8=48 led panels x2 mounted for floor/entrance lighting

    very nice! your dash LED's look better than mine too! i just switched the bulbs over, have you done something else to spread the light around better?

    No Tado, I just replace the bulbs with leds. Red does seem much brighter than blue though.

    So have you mixed the LED colours to get that effect? The red certainly looks very effective.

    It's on the to do list. Just got to decide what'll look best. I've already put an LED in with the park brake bulb so it flashes red when the immobiliser is armed (Stole that idea from a Lotus!)

    Here's a really poor photo of my glove box lit up! Looks much better in the flesh and I've simply used a magnetic switch to turn it on/off.

    I can generally find where to put my feet, but a light on the ignition switch for the key would be very sweet. But where to mount it?

    That could be possible. The Ignition has a rubber ring between the barrel and the trim. Maybe some other Honda's have an Illuminated ring that could be taxed?

    Well spotted!

    I took it apart to fit a magnet inside the catch area an thought "Why not?" I had material left over from the dash/door re-trim.
    Should help dead'n the sound of anything rattling around inside it.

    Agreed, red does work much better than blue for the instrument cluster.

    I put in a white LED for the fuel/temp gauge. The heater controls only take two bulbs so now have blue and white. They look much sharper then they used to.

    I've also changed the stop/tail,park lights and number plate bulbs to LED's. I no longer notice my tacho dip when I turn the lights on

    Do you happen to have the numbers handy for the stop, tail, park and number plate lights?

    Maybe try the 35watt HIDs also to help with that. 3 times as bright as the 55w incandescent h4h.
