View Full Version : Re-ringing engine - Now Rebuild

Pulled the motor out yesterday after it was smoking badly.
The valve guides look pretty worn out.
The head had been off recently as it was cleaned up and a new head gasket was installed but apparently it was not rebuilt.
The bore in the engine looks pretty good, you can still see cross hatch patterns from honing but the oil rings are collapsed on
the pistons. Looks like we are just going to do a complete overhaul.
Anyone have suggestions on if the oil pump should also be replaced?
The main and rod bearings show a little wear but are not scored or damaged.... We are just going to polish the crank and install new bearings. I was looking in the parts manual and the oil pump is a little different than what I have seen....

Thanks for the advise on pulling the whole engine. Turned out to be not that bad of a job.
