In my experiance, (other may disagree) If the capacitors have blown then its ECU replacement time as they cause damage to other areas of the ECU that is not obvious (poss internal in the chips etc).

So replacement is the only answer.

If you remove the ECU (behind passenger seat, behind document box) and then remove the ECU cover plate you will prob find that one or more of the cylinder shaped capacitors have either swollen or blown completely.

I remove the ECU cover and all the capacitors looks good.
Any other ideas about what the problem is with my beat.

Hey Ross

You will not be able to tell if the capacitiors are OK by simply looking at them. Granted, if they look a little swollen then that is not a good sign. I suppose you could take the approach; what do you have to loose by replacing them.

Just my thoughts

Jason :)

Just raplace them!

They only cost a couple of pounds and if you have a soldering iron and a de-soldering pump you are ready to go. Just don't start pulling tracks off the pcb :p , ha Jason.
