Hey folks, just wanted to introduce myself...

I'm Colin and just got a 93 Beat...after many years of wanting one.

There is a little more info on the car and the story here:
http://import-era.com/threads/so-i-guess-i-bought-a-beat.1146/

I'm still sorting a few things out, but still driving it regularly. It has the intermitten check engine light (with no codes when that connector is jumped) and had a dirty air filter. That's all I could really find wrong with it.

Currently have a rear spoiler on the way from Croooober/Up Garage, because I want a third brake light for safety purposes. I'm also looking at new hardware for the soft top (available on Yahoo Japan) and need to replace the plastic rear window with something suitable. The most expensive item, a new muffler/exhaust will have to wait until I get some more money....or I'll have to fan something up, on the cheap.

Hope you guys like it...the thing makes me smile every time I go near it!

Looks good Colin had a look on your thread and saw the ecu looks to have had leaking capacitors n the past as the board is stained like my one it's a common thing and easy enough to fix.

I didn't notice the staining when I took those pictures. I even looked carefully at those areas when I had it apart. Time for some glasses I guess...because now those caps are full on leaking and causing corrosion around some of the neighboring resistors.. Check engine light is on solid every time I start it up now. That's why I'm on here right now...to find a shopping list for capacitors to order. Point me in the right direction? :-)
I've taken the car off the road as of today, so that I can fix this issue.

If you are going to the trouble of fixing it you may as well bin the SLD off and get a proper chip at the same time :) Capacitors go in part either due to age or with the position of it being right on the firewall for the engine so heat soak.

Capacitors

Sports Rom which will delimit the ecu from the off and have a slight tune on it

ECU relocation harness to relocate ecu so it doesn't get affected by heat

Would use some board cleaner to get as much of the staining from the leaks as possible before reassembly but those 3 things would give me peace of mind

Hi Gavin I was just looking for the relocate harness but seems to be an error
