OK, just replaced the engine in our Beat.

Runs fine, but will not rev beyond 7k. Done timing, checked TPS, Map

No engine codes.

Any ideas?

Never got to the bottom of the 7000rpm issue which was experienced on quite a few cars.

Thanks for the response. Well that is frustratingly reassuring lol At least its likely not to be a duff engine

Will try ECU next

It does sound like some kind of ignition limiter - rather than a fuel cut/limit

Ignition coil? Or some fail safe limp mode maybe. Will continue......

I've just had a quick look at the Japanese sites for this problem. Couldn't find anything obvious, except one person who was complaining about the same problem and was fobbed off by the garage he bought it from ("its old, they all do that, you don't want to go that fast anyway..."). One suggestion to him was that it was the ECU. You might look to swap the ECU with someone to see if this is it.

I tried an ECU on a car with this problem and it didn't fix it.
I'm beginning to wonder if it relates to the drive gear on the camshaft, as other cars that were affected I believe had all had cambelt/distributor failure previously.

Do you know if your car may have had in the past?
