Long story short coolant pipes near the rear had corroded right on the bracket a hole appeared about a month or so ago just before I parked it up, took said pipe off repaired it and put it back on today refilled the system with coolant and water with front rad cap off.

Ran it up to temp on the gauge fine although it took ages for hot air to come through but eventually after 15-20min it did so put rad cap back on and let the car run lots of hot air coming through nicely, expansion bottle bubbled away as the last of the air was forced out then it settled down. Ran for another 20min but still no fan gauge sat dead on half expansion bottle level was pretty even to no leaks from anywhere either :D

Just don't know if I missed something out or done something wrong at all?

Would take a fair bit to get the fan running on a beat Id say?
With the length of the pipes to the rad, run externally and the rad is away from and heat soak from the engine..

To get the fan on you would probably need to keep the revs up a bit instead of sitting at idle
