Hi there! Hope somebody can help me, yesterday my car had idle and light accel problems then when i went to stop the brake pedal was very stiff and i nearly crashed. Took the car back home carefully and did a bit of research.

I found that matbe it has something to do with a brake booster or vacuum pipe.

Does anybody know where abouts i could check for these or have any info on how to fix?

Thank you for any help you can give,
Scott.

A vacuum leak on the servo pipe could cause both of these symptoms.

Check servo operation by pumping the brake pedal with engine off and then hold brake on and start engine - Pedal should sink as servo operates.

Check for presence of vacuum at servo.

Clamp pipe at inlet manifold end - any change to engine running e.g stops leak

Thanks Steve, i pumped and held the brake down then started the car, the pedal went down a little bit but not as much as normal.

Now the pipe that i'm supposed to be clamping on the inlet, can you get to that from the boot without removing the engine hatch and can you help me locate it please?

Thanks,
Scott.

You could first try clamping pipe at the servo (Under front bonnet, below reservoir)

Otherwise I think only option is to remove engine cover and clamp pipe off of inlet manifold.

When pipe is clamped does it effect idle?

This is the layout of the vacuum supply to the servo.

It could be a leak somewhere down the line, perhaps corroded metal pipe or maybe split rubber hose (6, 7, 9, 10)

Thank you very much for this informaton Steve it has been very helpful. I couldn't find any leaks so I took it into the garage for my friend to have a look. He has just got back to me and he couldn't find any leaks either but he said that he thinks it is the Idol air control valve that is stuck open.

Do you know where I can get this part, if they are available and how much it would cost?

Thank you again for any help.

Scott.

Still available from Honda, But no stock in Europe, so would have to come from Japan

Part no. 36450-P36-004 Retail price inc VAT £399.13

Your probably best removing and cleaning before replacement at that price.

I have removed the part and had it cleaned but still no joy, does anybody have a spare one that i can borrow to see if it is definitely the cause of the problem? I would pay all expenses.

Thank you, Scott.

I don't but could it be the servo itself has gone?
