View Full Version : BEAT just died today

Drove the Beat on a short trip today , when I stopped to park and turned the key to the off position is made an unusual noise , I immediately tried to restart it and it wouldn't , engine light comes on , fuel pump primes and it tries to start but just won't , it does back fire a little .
The only thing I did any different was to try run the Aircon to see if it was working , I had turned it back off just before stopping , don't think it's connected but I thought worth mentioning , any ideas folks ???

How does it turn over? Sound quicker than normal?

Cambelt snapped?

Camshaft gear sheared?

Both could be caused by seized distributor.

I can't say I noticed any change in tick over , cam belt sounds nasty :(

Not to raise your hopes, but the last time mine stopped suddenly it was nothing more than the center HT lead popped out of the distributor. Good luck!

It's been towed to the garage and they will have a look on Monday , hopefully it won't be too serious .

Without having a look and just going by what ive told them , their best guess is a fuse from the air con , seems as it had not been used in at least 6 years , here's hoping , he did agre e that if it was the cam belt i would have noticed the change in sound when trying to turn it over , again here's hoping you are right .
