I wanted to ask you guys this for a long time.
Our BEAT registration date is 1-1-1991.
The Beat was first introduced in May 1991.. So how is this possible?
We bought our BEAT in England, so it was shipped to there and registrated..
Was there something wrong with the papers from Japan that they did'nt know what the first date of registration was?
Is there a way to find out what date our BEAT was born or first registert in Japan?
Vin Number : PP1-1016600
So is this number 16600 of 33.000 BEAT's?:)

As per this post VIN PP1-1013138 was manufactured 22/07/1991 so yours would have been after that date.
Like most Beat the dates are all a bit hit and miss as it just depends on any paperwork that was used after the vehicle was imported to determine initial first registration date and also what Reg number it got etc.

Via my colleages in Japan they have managed to get information from Suzuka factory regarding the production date of your Beat.
1.Manufactured date: 22/07/1991
2.Pass date of final inspection: 24/07/1991
Thanx for your reply Steve!
Can you ask the same for our Beat?
Really would like to know his birthday :)
Uhm, i think it is not an official message from your colleage's

not too much, but i would think that DVLA doesn't care about exact first registration on an imported car, the year would be enough to give the first relevant UK registration ie in your case 1991. for all i know they may just look at the seat-belt tags which show dates on them?
our Beat is on an H reg. 1 August 1990 – 31 July 1991 so assuming the May date is right for production ours is a late H, could have been a J just as easily.
Is this anything to do with the problems you're facing soon regarding Classic cars?

No, really want to know what date our Beat saw his first light.. :)
Classic cars tax and insurance rulez just changed again here in Holland.. Not very positive..
What do you mean by H reg and J reg??
1991 is on the seatbelt tag.
I have a copy of the uk registration certificate and a lot of MOT's..
H382 UEO Validation Character Z.
I bought an Civic EP3 in Glasgow and imported in Holland. There is an validation character X.

in the UK the H J K etc were identifiers for registration dates but actually cover 2 years due to new registrations then were on August 1st so H covers 1st August 1990 to 31st July 1991.
so as yours was originally an H reg, assuming the seat belt tag indicates something near to manufacture date, the DVLA ( UK reg agency) would have had some indication that it was early in the year, what i don't know, possibly some original paperwork that came with car?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_United_Kingdom, _Crown_dependencies_and_overseas_territories#1983_ to_2001
history 1983-2001 on above page which shows you how UK registration worked at that time.
to get a definite answer i'd say you need to contact Japan or know someone with good contacts?
as far as validation characters go, not too sure but not anything Joe Public needs to know, administration marks of some kind.
