Ok,

I've heard lots about the Version Z Beat. It was available in 1993 only and the first of actual mechanical changes since 1991, but the information is very hard to find on this model.

Does any one know what these mechanical differences might be, and does it in fact have an OEM LSD?

Anything else that makes the Version Z stand out from a regular Beat?

Thanks!

Version F - Turquise green (800 built)

Version C - Captiva Blue (White pepperpot wheels) (500 built)

Version Z - 100 series chassis. Only minor changes. All black dials, standard rear spoiler.

Version Z - 110 series chassis. quite a few modifications - ABS & LSD was factory option. (Dark green and blade silver). AC change to R134 gas (previous was R12)

Good info there Steve, didn't know about the aircon change.

Any idea how many 110's were built? I know of at least 1 :D

There's even some confusion about the Z in Japan as well, although I guess this will get sorted out this birthday year. Mine is a 100 series (VIN 103XXXXX) and a '94 model. The only distinguishing features are the silver paint, spoiler, black instruments, and pepperpot wheels. LSD and ABS were options, fairly rare I gather. When I bought mine and had it checked out and registered, a local specialist told me it was "not really a Z" because it lacked those.

How will it get sorted out this birthday year?

Sounds like the version z is still a very un-known car.

Mylee, you have a 110 right? How do you know? By the VIN. Do you have an LSD and ABS?

Yep 110 VIN. TBH I'm not sure about the LSD or ABS. Having driven other cars with ABS I'd say that my beat hasn't got it fitted.

Easy test for the LSD is to jack the rear up and spin a wheel, the other wheel should turn in the opposite direction.

Well, I meant that since there will be gatherings all over Japan in May (20th launch anniversary), there should be some super-boffins around who know the score.

Now I see in the new Beat Book that a) the metallic green was available only on the Z, and b)after 12/1994 the Z came with ABS and LSD as standard equipment!. Mine was made in June 1994, so close but no cigar.

Need to find the date of mine now, but I'm guessing like you, no cigar :awwww:

Yes, I definitely plan to attend the one here on Okinawa (300 miles from the nearest part of the mainland, so that's the best I can do!).
