Hi there!
I'm looking for a Km Cluster in very good condition.
Mine has been changed to miles and we want to change it back to km.
Thanx!

Hi
Has the instrument been recalibrated or the dial given new graphics?

Recalibrated I'm led to believe.

When the engine is not running the meter is much more to the right.
When we drive 60mph the meters is on 40..

check for a small box marked mph/km in the pod behind the speedo. It's probably scotchlocked to wiring.Remove it and rejoin any cut wires. That's the thingy mentioned.Dave.

they dont normally put converters at the speedo sensor end.
the sensor itself is quite a sized unit.
the fact the the gauge itself says MPH, I would think that that has been tampered with, and probably ruined to be able to convert back to Kph.

The face of the speedo has been replaced with one showing mph in the correct place for an otherwise unmodified car. When the engine is not running the needle is probably further to the right because there's no stop protuding from the dial. You say that when the car is running at a true 60 MPH the speedo reads 40 this is close enough to be the consequence of fitting a device to enable a standard speedo to indicate MPH. In other words your car has had TWO modifications which work against each other.
With regard to the "thingy" near the speed sensor on the transmission I am wondering if this is intended to fool the ECU into thinking the car is going slower to override the top speed limiter and mucking up the speedo as a side effect (the wire fron the sensor goes to both the ECU and the speedo). Try removing it and rejoining the speed sensor wire. If the speedo is then showing the correct speed in MPH its Ok and you could either have another new face made or swap it with someone who wants a MPH unit.
I hope this isn't too confusing!

You know, now that you mention it, I believe they said something like this when I bought him. Good call there, that man!

wauw!
A lot of info!
Many thanx!
When the car is back from respray i will remove all speedo modifications.
And hope the speedo is doing better.
We are also trying to get a km cluster from Japan to Holland and when that is in working order the mph cluster is going on sale for the mph plate.

If you could guarantee that the MPH cluster is accurate (more or less) when you have the mods removed, I would consider a straight swap for my KPH cluster, which is untouched, as far as I know.
That Beat even looks great stripped down...

Yesterday i have take a look inside the cluster.
There are no modifications.
I "put" the needle on 0 with a simple mod.
The meter is now working "ok"
I can make a picture of it.
We can swap. but its wise to only swap the mph plate and not the whole cluster. i do not want to give you a broken cluster.:)

Right about the cluster, also my trip meter has never worked since I got it. But changing the plate, how would I then get mine to read MPH, not KPH on an MPH clock? I'm confused now.
Anyway, I am in the middle of some problems with this car, but they should be sorted out soon.
I would like to help out, but I don't have a clue what I'm doing with instrument pannels. Get the ferry from Rotterdam to Hull (my town) and you are welcome to swap them over!
