Still on a mission to replace the tattered and torn roof on my beat. Have found a welder who will sort out the frame before I go off to Swansea for the rag replacement. However the welder needs the frame removed from the car and stripped. Does anyone have any tips on removing the frame assembly - is it a pretty straightforward operation? Any specialist tools required?

wouldn't have thought so?
if you do do it yourself don't forget to take pics & write it all down to put it the 'how to...' forum :)

Very straight forward. Once the cloth has been removed it's just 2 bolts each side. One needs removing and the other just need loosening.

Fabric:
I had some rivets to take care of at the front of the frame, but it's pretty straight forward. Front is held in by cross head screws, side ones you should know about (the ones you clip the cover on to).
There's a metal wire that runs from front to rear to pull the roof tight, I think that's just riveted on too, so just arm yourself with a screw driver and a drill and just take your time. If you don't want to keep your old roof we found it easier to cut through tight/complex bits then undo the bolts when we could see them clearly haha
Frame:
As above, very easy just two big bolts each side :) (You don't need to take the fabric off to remove the frame)
