Blimey, continued head removal on my beat. Those heat shields are a mare, all the bolts rust up, had to get the grinder out. Both manifolds now off. Will get the belt cover off tomorrow and pull the head off to inspect the damage. Any ideas how many valves will be bent?

Can I take it from that then that you have removed a Beat head after belt failure?

Well its off, it looks like 8 valves are definately bent , I'm not sure about the other 4 exhaust.I will get them removed and spun up to see. I think Im going to drop the motor and repair the whole thing on the bench, because its so tight in that bay. Only had a quick look and I can see marks on the piston faces from the valve contact , any body had a motor written off by belt failure?
Should I pull the motor out with out the gearbox or not?

I wouldnt bother taking the block out really,
But if your going to then Leave the gearbox in the car.
when you go to put the engine back in leave the bottom pulley off and put the engine in from below.

Your going to be looking at about a £600 bill for part if you buy from a UK Honda dealer.
Slightly cheaper if you source your parts via Japan and dodge VAT and import tax. (But pay someone to import them for you)

Thanks for that, is there any figures to check guide damage or wear? Got the valves out now. The belt was broken into four pieces. Can one person lift the engine?

Yes
I made a wooden platform that went on to my trolley jack so I could move engine about and also lift up into position after lowering car body down over the engine.
