i thought i'd join the Beat forum anyway so i can do a little reasearch to see what these little cars are all about. just toying with the idea to get a little engined Honda just to get to work and back and save a little money on fuel.

it will depend what comes up at what price. possibility of a Beat or a Z600 (not the N600) . i don't really need another car as the old Accord does ok as a runaround so it will just be a toy.

iv'e only had Hondas for the last ten years including an S2000 . i found the S2000 a bit of a disapointment performance wise so i sold it. i have at present a S800 to which i am fitting a S2000 engine but that is a long term project.

Please don't expect a Beat to be any sort of rocket ship

:D

i'm building what will hopefully be a rocket ship.

the S2000 i thought would be very quick and it isn't. i had a 1.5 CRX which shouldn't be quick but it was. the S2000 is faster than a 1.5 CRX but it came down to what i expected that made the difference. anything with a 600cc engine is never going to be quick ;)

i work on classic cars for a living and recently built and tuned a Ford 427 (7 litre) side oiler engine for 1966 AC Cobra. something with over 550bhp and only weighing 1000kgs is brutually quick. 0 to 60mph in less than 4 seconds, 0 to 100 mph in less than 8 seconds :p

i'm more thinking of economy for a small engined car.

I would not say a beat was great on economy compared with a modern larger engined car.

If you want to progress at a reasonable speed it does require fairly high revs which does not promote economical runs.

they are all too heavy. don't get me wrong they go ok but it is all relative to what you are used to. if i had come from a Nissan Micra then it would feel quick but i came from an EG6 Civic VTi. a car i kept for six years it was so good.

the S2000 is a track car . crap on the road and fantastic on the track. i loved the driving position, it was perfect for me. but for a performance car i feel it lacked grunt and had to be revved hard to feel any sort of performance. again ideal on the track but crap on the road.

i'm sure the S800 at half a ton lighter than an S2000 will have plenty of pep at low revs.

oh and i don't do bikes, i'll probably fall off before i got on it.

as i said, before i'm only looking at the Beat as a possible candidate. i might not get anything

I have just re-filled my tank for the first time :18 lt for 312 km.
If my calculations are correct that's 48 miles/gallon.
Virtually no driving was done in slow traffic, but still an unexpectedly good result.

!!!:D That sounds great!!! Keep us posted!!!

At least you lucky guys in the Uk have the AP1 motor through all the years (2.0L) because in North America we got the shaft (in my opinion) with the AP2 (what came in 2004) and the 2.2L what only rev's to about 8000rpm vs 9000 of the 2.0L.

I have driven a euro spec civic type-r (k series), an S2000 and a honda beat. I can tell you that the Beat is very fun to drive. Fast no, but fun yes. Some people say that its faster to drive something slow fast, than something fast slow...words I live by! Think of it as a street legal go-cart.

With the Beat you can row through the gears in redline without worry of jail time or serious injury. Its a VERY fun car. Puts a smile on my face every day!
