Hi everyone,
I'm taking my Beat on a track day at the Bedford Autodrome with a company called Circuit Days on Friday 20th Feb for an all day'er with a brief lesson with pro thrown in (kind of birthday present to self) - see website below.

http://www.circuit-days.co.uk/

Its £150 quid but you don't need any previous experience, or specialist equipment beyond reasonable checks that you car is mechanically sound and MOT'd. You only need a helmet (that the company can hire you for an additional £10). The site is quite good as you can see who else is going and their cars.

I fanced it to learn a bit more about my Beats handling (just what happens after the understeer!) but I thought I'd put it out there to see if any of you other Beat owners fancied it. Given that the next slowest car on the list has twice the Beats bhp @120 I wouldn't mind some friendly rivalry, or at least something I can keep up with! If you want to find out more, check out the site, or you can call me on 07765 713967. See you there? :)

You Crash!!

Standard Beat front tyres are just not sticky enough to stop it understeering.

Also you will more than likely hit the speed limiter which spoils some of your fun.

Otherwise you can probably drive the circuit flat out in a beat with out any probs.

But do keep an eye on your oil level, as at high revs beats certainly get through some oil, and wont like it if the levels low and you corner at high speed.

Otherwise Have fun, But for me a Beat may look like a sports but it cant be driven hard like one. Thats what resigned me to sell my 2 and buy a Lotus.

Track days in a Beat are fun.... except when everyone keeps overtaking you lol

Cheers for the advice, I realise the car is not all that fast, mine especially so as its Andy Fishers old car which won't rev past 7200rpm/ 87mph. I still think it will be a good day. As I see it, the others are only allowed to overtake on the straights, so ergo, the person driving the slowest car will have the most fun, flat out at all times! I think it will also be like Le Mans, where the fast cars are in their own 'race' while the clubman type cars battle it out together.

The line up is very split as the webpage tells you cars and drivers occupations. Of the 30 odd cars, about 25 are company directors who have evidently hired Lotus Exiges and Porsche 911's from the company (at £900 for the Exige and Christ knows for the 911!) or on some kind or corporate jolly, and the other people. We have a 205GTi, an XR2i, an E30 BMW 325, my Beat and an MR2. I fully expect to be slowest! I'm definately with you on the oil checking, as the car has a habit of going through it on the road.

Your probably right about the understeering, though I've had some twitching from the back on the road. Theres a video of an Auto Gymkhana on youtube of a Beat and in hard cornering it appears to lift the inside front wheel! Anyway, it should all go well, and absolute worst case, theres someone on here looking for a Beat with a busted engine!

I'll let you know how it goes...
