Fitting a S2000 start button in your Beat

Having fitted a S2000 start button in our Civic, I thought I'd have a go at fitting one in the Beat.
The start button is readily available from Mr Honda,

although he will kindly remove £70 from your wallet for one.
The best option, as I done with the Civic is to buy a 'kit' from Ebay. These are brand new and prewired for ease.

First thing is to choose a suitable location for the start button, making sure you have enough depth behind any panels BEFORE cutting. As I don't use the ciggy lighter in my Beat, I decided this would be an ideal location

Remove the panel and unscrew the ciggy lighter

The hole isn't big enough for the start button, so out comes the Dremel!!!

Take your time at this stage, to get a perfect fit remove a little material and check the fit regularly

Next comes the wiring. The kit is supplied with good instructions, but having a copy of the Beats wiring diagram also helped

The relay requires a switched 12V supply and a good earth, luckily enough that's exactly what the ciggy lighter is!!!!

With the relay in place, and the switched 12V and earth connected, you now need to make a decision whether you still want the key to start the car. I didn't so I cut into the ignition side of the wiring

And connected the starter wire from the relay

Tidy up the wiring and refit the panel and hey presto!

The button now works exactly as per a S2000, you need to put the key in, turn to ignition (position 2) and press the button for firing. The button is illuminated as soon as the key is in position one, which is also nice.

As per my Civic I plan to refit the ciggy lighter in the glove box, therefore not loosing the 12V socket.

The button now works exactly as per a S2000.


Not exactly. an S2000 isolates the switch when the engine is running to protect from accidental operation of the starter motor.

Just remember not to press it while the engine is running or you may be needing a new starter or even worse a new ringgear.
