rough running

My car is driving me potty

It running rough, at idle it's barely noticeable but 2000 rpm or more and it wont

hold constant revs it goes up or down by about 300 rpm

I 've changed

spark plugs
ht leads
dizzy cap
fuel filter
ran with air filter off to see if it made any difference none at all
cleaned the breather pipe out no difference
tried to do the fault code thing nothing flashes but the engine light has been permanently on for over a year
it still does 50 mpg

Any ideas please

Had a look a ECU at least one of the capcitors looks like its bulging out of the top

went to Maplins to buy replacements

got the right micro fahrad rating but not voltage

they suggested that higher voltage is ok longer as not lower voltage

Anybody know is this true?

If so all I need to do is find a good technician who can solder good and try that

Right update

took PCB to a bloke I met in the pub :)

and he fixed it

Two of the Capcitors had leaked and made quite a bit of mess on the board

When I took the ECU out it just looked like one Capacitor was slightly bulging

on the very top but when he unsoldered them you could see where they had

leaked by the legs. The acid inside had eaten away at the board and some of

the surrounding connections
