...I pressed the switch down and to the right of the steering wheel, looked like a fog lamp switch to me. No fog lights came on but the rear lights and the near side dipped beam went out, and won't come back on again. Off-side main beam and dipped beam, both front side lights, indicators and brake lights all ok.

Any ideas? I hate electrics!

First thing I would check is your fuses.

It sounds like there was a short when you pressed the switch, causing the fuse to blow. ;)

First check the fuses

You might need just to trace the wires back

it should not be difficult as the car is so short and let us know what they connect to.
We can then compare to our own cars and advise.

Ah, the old stealth switch eh?

Sounds like it probably should be fogs, but its got a short somewhere.

It was a short. The previous owner told me they'd had the off side rear light replaced. The new cluster didn't have the fog light mod most beats must have (one reverse light peplaced by red bulb and seperate switch).

All sorted now.

Don't know how it passed an mot without rear fogs.
