How do I retard the distributor one notch?

We managed to retard it using the screws on the top of it (under the cap), but the whole unit needs to be moved one more notch.

What do I need to undo?

The dizzy!!

The secret is to off set it by one tooth before it goes back into the engine, as its a helical gear and rotates as it goes in.

The guy that put my engine back together had a few goes at it before getting it right.

If the dizzys not been out then could the belt have slipped?
