Changed the alternator belt on my beat last night

while I had the engine covers off thought I get spark plugs out

and change air filter.

Anyway spark plugs were covered in oil it wasn't burnt on

but all three had oil on them.

I know this is a vague question but where do I go from here?

Is it a case of getting the head off and getting it skimmed and

valves reseated, new seals etc

OR would I be better getting the

engine out and taking it to specialist to check everything i.e

piston rings,etc

From reading previous threads the head can be taken off with

the engine left in but it is very awkward

Any advice much appreciated Mat

Was the oil on all 3 spark plugs.

In my case I lost compression and then when I took the plugs out I had it on all three. But in my case all three pistons cracked and oil was getting in pass the rings.

What milage is the car?

Was the air filter full of oil too?

Yes the air filter had oil on it and some oil in the box

and the oil was on all plugs

mileage is 142,000 kms

funny thing is it runs great

I would say its coming up throught the rings then. The bores might be glazed too.

Mine was like that for a good year and half before it blew up.
