Would any of you be interested in HID kits for the Beat? Someone asked me a while ago if there is any chance of getting them, now I can, just gauging interest.

High Intensity Discharge Lights - Changes your standard headlights to bloody bright ones :)

"High Intensity Discharge (H.I.D.) is a type of lighting technology that replaces the filament of the light bulb with Xenon gas. The gas is ignited to produce an arc of light, when high voltage is applied. The amount of light output is three times that of a standard halogen bulb. The lamps also glow at a higher light temperature (closer to natural sunlight) that gives it its distinct color and appearance."

Yes I will take a look for you aswell.

I did have a price yesterday for this but I am glad I did not post it as I am having consistency issues with my supplier prices. Until this is sorted I cant post a price, hopefully tonight though. If not, ASAP :)

i dont want to hi-jeck this post, but it does certainly sounds very expensive for HID kit, we distribute phillips HID for half of that price. unless there is more in the kit that we are missing :D

what bulb does the beat takes? H4 ?

This is more than just bulbs guys (obviously) :)

It is called the Spec-Evo-Neo Kit from a Japanese supplier who specialise in HID Kits

Maybe they have misunderstood my request and priced me up the wrong part? This is the kit I was recommended for your vehicle though.

www.brightheadlights-hid.com Have a lot of info on HID lights including kits which appear to offer a direct replacement for standard halogen bulbs. I have a vague recollection of seeing similar advertised in UK magazines but was concerned as to the possible heat output as Beat has plastic headlamps.

are they road legal tho? i'm pretty sure if you go anything over 150% of the brightness of a standard bulb there for off road use only.

There is no mention of that Rick, and to be honesy I dont really see much point in an off-road HID kit. I will make sure though as that is a very important question.

Shaun, I understand your logic about there being no point in making a HID kit that's not road legal but logic and the law often conflict.

HID kits, or more importantly the bulbs must have an EU safety compliance mark and the kits must have a harmoginisation certificate to say that they comply with the requirements of EU directive 76/756 relating to vehicle lighting.
HiD kits are currently seen as falling foul of this little gem
Forward of the front axle of the vehicle, and fitted in such a way that the light, emitted does not cause discomfort to the driver either directly, or indirectly through the rear-view mirrors and/or other reflecting surfaces of the vehicle. If the items aren't being made or targeted at Europe they won't have the necessary bits of paper! This isn't a huge issue for the end user who can claim technical ignorance but I'm sure you appreciate that as a supplier things are a little different. All this being said high level brake lights were fitted to cars illegally for a good few years, LED bulbs were also illegal and the indicators on the new Merc 55 do not run in the same plane along the length of the vehicle (the side repeaters are in the wing mirror) so that's non compliant as well.
EU legislation...a buggers muddle and a complete waste of time money and effort.

Thanks for that Tim, great bit of info, and over-looked by myself. They do however do a 125% kit which I have sent an enquiry about, perhaps that can be used with the Beat aswell :)

Can you get a straight forward H4H hyperbright bulbs. I keep looking every so often but simply refuse to pay £60 for a bulb!

Not as far as I know, just an H4H fitting. Heat could be a problem with the Beats plastic lights but I'm pretty sure someone would have heard if this was an issue before now.

I will keep my eyes open mate and ask a few people. I could easily bung a few sets into a shipment so you dont have to pay silly shipping costs :)
