Gear Knob

Is there a special way of taking the gear knob off, (i just bought a leather replacement) or do you just twist it. I tried twisting but got no movement so I though it may be a good idea to ask before i put the stilsons on it!;)

The gear knob just unscrews, like a normal nut, anti clockwise.

If its not an original, it may be held on with either grub screws (remove collar around bottom then take out the grub screws)
Or a self tapping plastic thread, in which it may be stripped, so try pulling and twisting until it pops off
