The following is a list of selected events that we feel may be of interest to members and Beat owners. Contact details are shown in each item and, unless otherwise stated, you should make your own arrangements. In some cases, we are making arrangements for club space and this is mentioned where it applies. We hope you’ll be able to attend one or more events and look forward to seeing you there.
Sunday 8th May – Prescott Hill Climb Day, Gotherington, Gloucester.
As part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations for 2005, the Sunbeam Rapier Owners Club is please to announce that they are holding a Southern Spring Meeting for all Rootes and Classic cars at the Prescott Hill Climb.
Come and join them to watch or partake of a run or two (or more!) up the hill, but above all to enjoy the period atmosphere and trade stands. Camping is available. Contact Nick Smith on 01386831092 for pre-entry tickets for the hill climb or spectator at £10/car inc. up to 4 passengers plus £5/run or £12.50 on the day plus £5/run.

Saturday 14th /Sunday 15th May - Brands Hatch.
If you enjoy motor sport with a dash of nostalgia, you’ll love Brands. Both days of the Classic Festival feature self-contained programmes of motor racing. Hundreds of stunning classic cars are displayed all around the track perimeter. Each day will see the 1993 F1 Ferrari on track from the era of Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger. New for 2005 is the Sport BMW Challenge with a grid of over 30 BMW 318i and 320i models from the 80’s.
The csma classic Festival has something to appeal to all ages – a day of fun and excitement which costs so little but delivers so much entertainment for all the family.

Sunday 22nd May – Cheshire Kit & Classic Car Show & Rally, Capesthorne Hall, Macclesfield, Cheshire.
Set in the beautiful grounds of Capesthorne Hall, Macclesfield, Cheshire, the annual Rochdale Owners Club gathering has gained a reputation as a friendly, fun day for car enthusiasts and their famililies. We are pleased to invite you to join us on Sunday the 22nd May. (Gates open at 10am)
Joint stand space reserved for Honda Beats and Suzuki Cappuccinos. Entrance free for driver and passenger.
(At the entrance mention that you are displaying your car)
Sunday 29th May 2005 – An Introduction to Sprinting at Curborough.
Just off the A38, between Burton-on-Trent and Lichfield, Staffordshire.
This event is aimed at anyone who has NEVER sprinted before, but has an interest in becoming involved. Visitors will be guided through all aspects of a Sprint, including walking the course, paperwork, safety, car preparation etc. They will then have the opportunity of driving the course in their own ROAD CAR (must be ROAD LEGAL in all respects) with an “Instructor” alongside.
This event begins at 10am and will run until just after lunch. Refreshments will be available.
There is no booking involved, just turn up early. It’s subject to demand and is very popular, so there may be a long wait. www.curborough.co.uk
Saturday 11th June - Classic & Sportscar Action Day, Castle Coombe Circuit, Chippenham, Wiltshire.
Sadly, circuit drives are no longer free. However, it’s not too expensive to book a drive and the event is always excellent. It’s a great day out and still one of the most cost-effective ways of driving on a race circuit (bring a spare set of tyres!). Add in club displays, trade stands, autojumble and time to talk to fellow enthusiasts and you have the essence of what makes a Castle Coombe Action Day a special event.

Sunday 19th June - ‘The 6th Heartbeat Run’. Castle Howard to Hutton Le Hole, via Scarborough.
(home of The Royal), Whitby, North York Moors, Goathland (Home of the Aidenfield Arms).
Based on the TV series, the Heartbeat Run was conceived in 1999 as a day out for mini owners. Over the years it has grown and classic cars have joined the fun, so the run is now the Heartbeat Mini & Classic Run. Any vehicle may enter as there are no restrictions on age or make. Starting at 10.30am at stately Castle Howard (15 miles east of York near A64) and the setting for ‘Brideshead Revisited’, the run takes you through the Howard estate and on to Scarborough for a photo opportunity outside the ‘The Royal’. Shortly afterwards we plunge down to the seafront for the popular Scarborough Cruise – a 40 minute adventure drive up & down the prom. It’s then on to Whitby for a view of the Abbey before turning on to the moors and the village of Goathland, home of the Aidensfield Arms, Scripps Garage, the station and other well known locations. There is a 90 minute break here to allow for lunch and sightseeing. Then, over the moors, regrouping on the top before descending to Rosedale Abbey and the steepest road in Britain. On to the finish at The Crown public house at Hutton Le Hole for a final gathering and for presentation of the prizes.
Mileage is variable and dependant on route taken, but approximately 90 miles (2½ hours driving). Official stops add 2½ hours. Start 10.30am. Cost £27 per car to include one plaque, one tee shirt (please indicate size), one rosette.

Bonus: for an extra payment of £6 per person you can gain access to the interior of Castle Howard, and also have your vehicle photographed in front of the building in a recreation of a scene from Brideshead Revisited.
