What are your fuel consumption figures I'm guessing and to get the first answer in.
With 97 Ron I get 350km to 20 liters
With 95 Ron I get 300km to 20 litres

which is 50mpg and 43mpg

which is 5.7l/100km and 6.6l/100km

I don't get much difference with the Project A chip either
:)

Wow I'm impressed, you actually measured it. I have no clue so I'll stay out of this thread.

Adam,
Just zero your trip meter when yo fill up and see what it is when the tank is nearly empty, thats pretty much 20liters burned.

My fuel economy has been poor recently for some reason, last week i got 270 km out of 20L i usually get over 300 thats on 95 ron. I must be hitting the red line too often :D

Mine seems to be doing ok then...

so far on this tank, I've done 175km on 1/2 tank...

ok most of that was in 1 day (wed) but still not too bad...:D

Ady.

does the beat not have to be driven on 98 actaan.
and are there any experience whit using the shell v-power patrol that suposed to be getting better fuel consumption

Are you a red line kind of guy Adam? I get more than that with a Project A chip.
Hondzilla, you are meant to use 98 Oct lead free if you can find it. Using 95 Ron shouldn't do any harm but I switched to Shell Optimax (This could be your v-power) when I put the Project A chip in. YES you get a good improvement on fuel consumption.
I swapped to Optimax because I was getting a bit of detonation with 95Ron. Adrian do you get this when you put your foot down?

Not really Tim but then I've always ran the Beat on Optimax...

I just wish I could find the time to try and get the engine to rev properly...

It's still got it's limiter kicking in somehow...:explode:

Well I give it where its due but I don't think I'm any different to the rest. Its very poor mpg.

Oh there is one thing thou which is related to this. My engine check light comes on some times and the code is 9 which would mean that the timing is off. Now its only off a tiny bit but the car has a habbit of shooting from the exhaust and the moment the light comes on the car becomes stuffed. I just don't have the time to look into it.

Yeh

Fuel consumption is a very subjective variable. Low revs and gentle driving gets good economy results. I tend to take off in first to 7000 revs and then settle down, but I know this is upping my fuel consumption. As always, fuel consumption is a trade off between a light foot on the throttle and the sheer exhileration of flooring it.

Since I only recently acquired my beat I haven't had time to re-time the engine but using 75 ron fuel I had frequent backfires.

I now use 80 ron fuel and an octane booster and things are much sweeter but certainly more expensive.

I have a non-standard exhaust and have modified the air intake so I guess this complicates the issue.

I find the beat engine very forgiving but in essence, you get what you pay for and you pay for what you get.
