Did you know if it's possible to buy and import a BEAT from UK to France? Did you know somebody who made this?

Thanks a lot for your answers.

OK thanks!

When you sold your last BEAT to this German guy, you must have give him some documents, like CERTIFICAT OF CESSION, GREY CARD, ORIGINAL DOCS or anythings else, no???
Because to register the BEAT in France, i need the following documents:
- certificat of cession
- english grey card
- repport of technical contrôle (MOT??)

Other question:
In the UK, how have been register all the BEAT?? It was private register (so import from Japan), or that is HONDA UK who have marketed the BEAT?

- certificat of cession ( i assume this is the V5 document)
- english grey card (not sure what this is?)
- repport of technical contrôle (MOT prob)

To be fair, the guy who bought mine just had the normal thing s you would give to anyone buying any car in this country. a V5 and valid MOT. Not sure what he had to do when he got back to his country though.

ok,

And what about the english grey card? In France, the "grey card" is the document which indicate all kind of things about the car: type, number of seats, fiscal power, noise, weight, etc...

Thanks a lot!

Matt,

The french grey card is a nickname for our certificate of title.

You'd better buy a vehicule with the new V5C instead of the classic V5.
I think the V5C is supposed to be European, and there is also a part for permanent export.

The car doesn't need to be taxed and Moted for long, enough to go back home.

You'll need to find an insurance in France, I know they can assure foreign registration vehicules

I don't know how the car are declared on the V5 document: Honda Beat or something different? and how look the new V5C Can you help us

Hi Guys,

A bit of Anglo-continental difference here if think. I've owned cars in The Netherlands and Germany but never France.

If France is similar to Germany and Netherlands then:

I think the Certificate of Cession will be the bill of sale. Something that proves you are the owner of the car. I was able to provide this in the Netherlands with a typed letter signed by the previous owner and myself stating I had bought the car. That was all they needed.

The Grey card will be the V5 log book. (In UK this does not prove ownership believe it or not, it simply says who the registered keeper of the vehicle is and gives details of the vehicle)

The repport of technical contrôle will be the MOT (TuV APK)

I think the person you buy the car from will have to inform the DVLA the car it to be permenantly exported and you will have to do the importing. I don't know how all this works now with the free trade rules but your Vehicle Licencing organisation should be able to tell you.

My car is described as a Honda Beat on the V5

I hope this helps
Tim

Tinytim,

Thank you for your answer. I found an interesting internet site "how to register your english car in france":
http://www.france1st.com/Car.htm
Very useful, except that it does not concern vehicule with SVA (Single vehicle approval) like the Beat.

Is the log book the same comparing a vehicle imported by a manufacturer of SVA?

Some Beat owners must have a V5C, so what is the difference? Is it written EEC on it?, which can be useful for continental to buy a Beat from GB

All the Beat are like yours Tinytim, registered Honda Beat or are they sometime registered like Q cars?

Thank you by advance. Bernard

Well it's a bit strange but the V5C has European Community written on it but no EC mark.

It says in French Certificat d'immatriculation.

As regards SVA you may need to refer to European Council Directive 96/96. It does say in there (somewhere) that an inspection carried out in any European Community country that conforms to the requirements of the EC Directive 96/96 MUST be accepted in any other EC member. So as long as the car has a valid MOT you shouldn't have a problem.

I'm not sure but I don't think the UK does the Q plate anymore, all the Beats on this site certainly seem to have standard plates, except for the personalised ones.

I'm looking for an insurance for the BEAT in France and it is rather difficult because this car not being referred in France, my insurance company doesn't have information relating to it. In fact, my insurance company need a copy of the V5.

Please help me!!!
Can somebody forward me the copy of his V5, by mail (guimly@free.fr) ?
Of course, you will have to hide the information like your name, first name and address.

Thanks.

I just got a new registration papers in the post last week. Its something I have never seen before but the booklet that came with it explains that the change due to harmonization throughout the EU.

I'm in Ireland and if you like I can send you a copy but some of the details are wrong. It says that my car is a 650cc and Sports/Coupe (Non-convertible). If you still want it I can email it to you.

Matt,

It is not a real problem to find an insurance company. You have to contact companies like "Zurich passion" or "Retro assurance" who are specialised in classic car, they insure car that you even never eared about.
Of course insurance company for your Megane or Civic won't know the Beat, and they won't assureit.
Classic car company accept more than 10 years old vehicles, that's all.

Take your time and don't be in hurry.
I still have home a 1992 letter from Honda Japan, as I started to be interested in this car. I saw the first one a couple of years after in Biarritz, then drove one in Germany in 1999. You should drove one before buying one or at least see one and get inside...

Thank you all for your advert.
If there is a silver, blue or white (preferably) Beat with no more than 50000 kms on the clock, I 'm ready to take a flight. I don't need long Mot or tax, of course no personal plates, excellent condition overall (dizzy, belt, ECU), I don't care about options (alloys, 120W stereo...) I could also manage to change hood or/and tires. Ready to pay 2500-3500

Best Regards

Fahd
